Friends of the Institute Event

ARCHITECTURE OF THE IMAGINATION, PART II

Sunday, March 28 1 to 5 p.m. at the C. G. Jung Institute, San Francisco

The Friends of the Institute will continue the February presentation of videos made by British film-maker Mark Kidel in which analyst James Hillman comments on the symbolic nature of architectural images. The program will include three videos: The Tower, The Window and The Bridge. Speaking of bridges, Hillman suggests that they represent a "fundamental human need" for a meeting of opposites, otherwise we remain in isolation. But when we are crossing the river we are also "crossing the god or the goddess." "In ancient Japan only the priests were permitted to cross the bridge." There is always the risk of death with the building of bridges, or crossing them. When we stand staring down at the water flowing under us, we look down into the abyss, the unknown, feel the mystery and the pull downward. There is also the rainbow which only the Shaman can cross, crossing over to the realm of the beyond.

There will be time for reflection and discussion with a break for light refreshments. This event is free for members. We welcome guests for whom there is a $10 fee. Please RSVP to Phyllis Stowell at no later than Friday, March 26.
