The James Goodrich Whitney Clinic was established over 40 years ago to serve the San Francisco Bay area. We offer
sliding scale psychotherapy to adults of all ages who are unable to afford standard fees but are interested in longer-term depth psychotherapy informed by Jungian theory.
People making use of our services are often experiencing a period of psychological distress or facing some painful life transition. We see individuals and couples including a good number of students and those involved in the arts. We place a high value on taking an individual approach.
The Clinic does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation or religion.
Following an initial evaluation consisting of several sessions, a determination is made as to the appropriateness of our Clinic setting and a therapist is selected by mutual consent. There is no arbitrary limit on the number of sessions available, and fees are set on the basis of a sliding scale.
Therapy is a unique experience. It is a relationship that involves working through challenges, reflecting upon and understanding important experiences in our lives and making meaning of them. Psychotherapy can be about relating to the process of growth itself together with the therapist through the exploration of dreams, symbols, witnessing and the relaying of stories about family and work.
Individuals coming to the Clinic are seen by post masters level therapist interns, analysts, and candidates in training to become analysts.
In addition to providing
sliding scale psychotherapy, the Clinic provides internships to psychotherapists in training interested in depth psychotherapy. They participate in extensive
individual and group supervision provided by Jungian analysts.
